A first update from the AIinHE project

The Student Perspectives on AI in Higher Education project brings together researchers from four Australian universities to understand how students are using generative AI in their studies, and what that means for their learning. Thank you for signing up to hear from us. This is our first update.

Here are three things we think are most worth your time.

1. Our first insights from the 2026 survey. In the first half of 2026, we ran an updated version of our 2024 survey to see what has shifted, and how. We now have 10,237 student responses, up from 8,458 in 2024. The snapshot we prepared for the HEDx conference sets out early patterns in how students are using AI, what they say it does for their learning, how far they trust it, and whether they feel their university is giving them enough guidance. The survey was still open when the snapshot was produced, so these figures may differ from the final published results.
2. Our most recent paper. Fawns and colleagues used an entangled pedagogy framework to look at the complicated realities of students’ lives alongside AI, and at why simple accounts of student use tend not to hold up.
3. A new way to find our work. We have reorganised our publications, talks and resources on the website around what we are finding. If you are interested in a particular question, you can now start there and see the evidence that supports our findings.

What to expect from us. As a subscriber, you will receive an email when the project has something new that you can read, watch or use, like new findings, new publications or new resources. That is likely to be a few times a year rather than monthly.
